FAQ

WHAT IS A RUNNING TOUR?

A running tour is a guided sightseeing tour that takes place on the run.

HOW LONG IS THE RUN?

Our tours are typically around 3-4 miles, or a 5k+ course. It takes about 1 hour (with stops) to complete each tour. We stop several times to take photos, hydrate, and learn about the surroundings.

WHO CAN PARTICIPATE?

Anyone capable of running 3-4 miles in 1 hour. Children under 5 years old should be in strollers.

WHAT PACE DO WE RUN?

Our pace is determined by the participants of the tour.  These are fun, casual tours, meant to include all running abilities.  Typically, the pace is between 9 - 11 minutes per mile, with a few  stops for photo opportunities and learning about the surroundings.

WHERE DO THE TOURS START?

Each tour has a specific meetup location. Please check our Tours and Routes page for details.  Please arrive at least 10 minutes early to check in.

WHAT SHOULD I BRING? IS THERE A BAG CHECK?

You do not need to print your ticket. Your name will be on our guest list when you arrive. Please dress for the weather and ready to run.

We do not have lockers or storage. Bring a few extra dollars if you wish to buy extra water, and in case you wish to tip your guide.

I AM A WALKER, CAN I JOIN A TOUR?

Our tours are intended for runners.

You'll need to be able to comfortably run 3 miles in order to keep up with the group and to hear the guides. If you have done "some" running recently, you can definitely do our run!

AM I ALLOWED TO TIP THE GUIDE?

Yes, tips are not expected, but appreciated.

WHAT IF I AM RUNNING LATE AND CANNOT MAKE THE TOUR?

Please plan on arriving 5-10 minutes prior to the tour start time, so tours can depart on time.  If you are running late, please text or call your guide.  We will try to wait for you whenever possible within reason.

For private tours, your guide will wait 10 minutes after the scheduled time. For group runs, if we don’t hear from you and the group is ready to leave, we will not wait.

WHAT IF IT'S RAINING?

We STILL RUN.  Unless there is extreme weather that makes the tour dangerous, we will run.

If conditions are not to your liking, we'd be happy to reschedule you to another run. If you contact us at least two hours before the scheduled start time.

WILL THERE BE WATER?

Yes. Your guide WILL have bottled water available at the end of the tour, but it's recommended that you bring some water, especially on a hot day.

CAN I BRING MY JOGGING STROLLER?

Only on tours that are stroller-friendly. Children in strollers take the tour for free.

Unfortunately, not all tours are stroller-friendly due to the unique geography in San Diego; many of our routes ascend and descend stairs and traverse dirt trails,  making it unsafe/impractical (but not impossible) for strollers.

WHAT IS YOUR CANCELLATION POLICY?

Tours are non-refundable, unless cancelled by Iconic San Diego Running Tours due to inclement weather. If you are unable to make your tour, you may transfer your registration to another date within 6 months.
